Precise Portable Micro ohmmeter with 4 Wire Resistance Measurement Technique

A precise measurement method is crucial for measurements in the microohm range. The PROMET SE+ uses the 4 Wire resistance measurement technique, also known as the Kelvin method for resistance measurement. In this method, the test current and voltage measurement are conducted separately. This minimizes the influence of lead and contact resistances in the test leads, allowing even very low resistances to be reliably determined.

This measurement method is particularly important when testing circuit breaker contacts, busbars, bolted and screwed connections, welded and soldered joints, as well as grounding and equipotential bonding connections. Users obtain reliable measurement results that can be used to evaluate and document the condition of electrical contact points.

Applications with the PROMET SE+ Portable Micro ohmmeter

The PROMET SE+ is designed for a wide range of testing tasks in power supply, industry, and service. Typical applications include:

  1. Measuring contact resistance on circuit breakers
  2. Testing busbar connections
  3. Measuring resistance on disconnect switches and high-current connections
  4. Quality assessment of screw and bolt connections
  5. Testing of grounding and equipotential bonding connections
  6. Mobile service operations in switchgear and substations
  7. Static and dynamic resistance measurement in the ACTAS testing process
  8. Quality testing in manufacturing, maintenance, and testing laboratories

PROMET SE+ is thus aimed at energy suppliers, switchgear operators, switchgear manufacturers, high-voltage service companies, test engineers, process engineers, and maintenance teams.

Portable Micro ohmmeter - Parallel Resistance Measurement & ACTAS Integration

The PROMET SE+ enables simultaneous resistance measurement at two test points thanks to two current outputs and two voltage inputs. This eliminates the need to repeatedly reconnect individual test points, saving time, improving the comparability of results, and making the test procedure more efficient—especially for multipole switchgear, parallel connections, or service calls.

The device can be used both as a standalone micro ohmmeter and integrated into ACTAS switchgear testing systems. When used with ACTAS, it enables not only static but also dynamic resistance measurements during the switching operation. This allows for the collection of additional condition data that would otherwise remain hidden in a purely static measurement, and enables the precise evaluation of main contacts, contact resistance, and contact behavior.

PROMET SE+ enables high-precision 200-A microohm measurements wherever mobility, speed, and reliability are critical.

FAQ

PROMET SE+ combines mobility, precision, and professional testing capabilities in a compact device. Users benefit from fast measurement sequences, high measurement accuracy, and improved comparability of results. Parallel measurement at two points reduces the need to reconfigure connections and supports efficient maintenance processes.

For operators and service companies, this means less downtime, better diagnostic capabilities, and greater reliability when evaluating critical electrical connections. Digital result management allows measurements to be documented in a traceable manner and reused for test reports.

Yes. PROMET SE+ functions independently as a portable micro ohmmeter. When used in combination with ACTAS, its range of functions is expanded to include static and dynamic contact resistance measurements.

Yes. The PROMET SE+ uses the PROMET operating software for managing results on a PC.

The software allows you to read, clearly organize, and further process the measurement data stored in the device. The measurement results can be exported to an Excel spreadsheet or output directly into a test report.

Additionally, integration with ACTAS is possible. This allows resistance measurements to be incorporated into switchgear testing. The ACTAS test software enables automated test sequences, a comprehensive analysis of the measurement results, and the inclusion of the measured values in the test report.

The accessories for the previous model, the PROMET SE, are compatible with the new PROMET SE+, particularly the cable sets.

  1. More compact and lightweight—very low weight (1.5 kg)
  2. Quality factor measurement of connections
  3. Mobile high-current testing without a power supply
  4. Faster testing through parallel measurement
  5. Greater comparability through simultaneous measurements
  6. Specifically optimized for mobile switchgear testing / Integration into existing ACTAS processes
  7. Less downtime through early fault detection
  8. More focused on mobile usability—integrated battery operation
  9. Intuitive standalone operation

PROMET SE+ offers you additional benefits when you need to perform measurements more quickly, with greater mobility, and in a way that allows for better comparability. By performing parallel measurements at two measurement points, PROMET SE+ reduces the effort required to reconfigure connections and saves time on recurring test tasks.

For most testing of circuit breakers, busbars, and high-current connections, a test current of 200 A is sufficient. Higher test currents are only necessary for special applications or when required by applicable standards.

No, ACTAS is not required for using PROMET SE+. The device can be used on its own for mobile microohm and contact resistance measurements. However, integration with ACTAS significantly expands its capabilities, as resistance measurements can be directly incorporated into professional switchgear testing, automated test sequences, and comprehensive test reports.

PROMET SE+ is specifically designed for mobile switchgear maintenance and can therefore be used flexibly either as a standalone unit or in conjunction with ACTAS.

Yes. The PROMET SE+ was specifically developed for mobile service calls and on-site switchgear maintenance. Thanks to its battery operation, compact design, and light weight of just 1.5 kg, the device is easy to transport and can be used flexibly, even in locations where no mains power is available.
In addition, the intuitive standalone operation, simultaneous measurement at two test points, and result management via PC make it easy to use in everyday work situations.

Increased contact resistance causes heat loss and voltage drops and can lead to failures. Regular measurements allow for early condition assessment.

Device Category Portable micro ohmmeter / Precision resistance meter
Main Application Contact and contact resistance measurement
Test Current Up to 200 A
Measurement Method Four-wire technique / Kelvin measurement
Special Feature Two measurement points simultaneously
Operating Mode Battery-powered and portable

A high test current reduces the influence of oxide layers and contact junctions. This allows the actual contact resistance to be determined much more accurately than with simple resistance meters.

The four-wire technique separates current and voltage measurements. As a result, line resistance does not affect the measurement result. This method is the standard for precise microohm measurements.
